INVASIVE WEED CONTROL
The HLCA and the Indiana DNR LARE have worked together for close to 2 decades to ensure Hudson Lake remains healthy and usable – treating specific invasive weeds that can clog and/or kill a lake.
PROJECT DETAILS
The HLCA partners with Aquatic Weed Control (AWC) and others annually to execute the process of identifying the areas needing treatment, determining a budget, and applying for the appropriate LARE grants. This occurs in the fall/winter; grants are awarded in the spring. Permits are secured, the areas are rescoped for treatment, and treatments are applied. Sometimes, subsequent treatments are required. If funds are available, these treatments are approved and completed.
Additionally, in 2025, HLCA treated Phragmites, a native plant that had grown to unhealthy levels, completely clogging navigation areas. One of these areas was the channel between the shore and the west island, hosting our family of eagles. Another treatment will be applied in 2026, followed by dredging once sediment removal funding and permits are secured.
PROJECT WORK
Work with AWC and others to work through the process defined above each year.
It takes a community to keep Hudson Lake healthy and enjoyable. Anyone interested in working on This PRoject, please reach out to us at info@hlcaindiana.com.
